DESCRIPTION:Join us for a practical and clinically focused Community of Practice session exploring the assessment and management of peripheral edema in the long-term care (LTC) setting.\nIn this session, Dr. George Heckman will guide participants through a structured, evidence-informed approach to evaluating lower extremity edema in LTC residents. Drawing on his extensive clinical and academic expertise, Dr. Heckman will highlight common etiologies, key assessment considerations, and pragmatic management strategies tailored to the complexities of long-term care populations.\nThe discussion will address:\n\nDifferentiating common causes of peripheral edema in LTC\nPractical bedside assessment approaches\nWhen to investigate further — and when not to\nManagement strategies that balance clinical benefit, resident comfort, and care goals\nCommon pitfalls and clinical pearls for LTC teams\nThis session is designed for LTC clinicians and leaders seeking to strengthen their diagnostic confidence and optimize care for residents presenting with peripheral edema.\n\nCOP is now accredited!\nThis one-credit per hour Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Ontario Chapter for up to 1 Mainpro+ credit.\nTo be eligible for credit:\nParticipants must remain available for the entire duration of the session.
