SUMMARY:OLTCC Community of Practice: Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), A Three View Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a thoughtful and multidimensional Community of Practice session exploring Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) through the clinical, ethical, and operational lenses of long-term care.\nThis session brings together three experienced leaders Dr. Rhonda Collins, D. Ben Robert, and Dr. Sandy Shamon who will share their perspectives on MAID in LTC.\nThe discussion will examine how clinicians navigate resident-centered decision-making, communicate with families, and balance ethical considerations with the evolving legislative framework. Panelists will also reflect on practical issues such as documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, and the challenges that arise when supporting residents and care teams through the MAID process.\nThis session is designed for LTC clinicians and leaders seeking a deeper, more nuanced understanding of MAID and its role in providing compassionate, high-quality care in long-term care homes.\nCOP is now accredited!\nThis one-credit per hour Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Ontario Chapter for up to 1 Mainpro+ credit.\nTo be eligible for credit:\nParticipants must remain available for the entire duration of the session. A mandatory post-session survey must be completed in order to receive your certificate.\nRegistration is required to attend. Only registered participants will be sent the Teams link prior to the session.\n
