DESCRIPTION:Program Overview\nThe OLTCC Medical Director Refresher Course is a focused, four-hour virtual learning program designed to reinforce leadership competencies for Medical Directors in Ontario’s long-term care sector.\nA combination of brief instructional segments and interactive, case-based discussions will update participants on current expectations, leadership responsibilities, and best practices in long-term care clinical governance.\nThis course supports Medical Directors in maintaining professional excellence and fulfilling ongoing educational expectations under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021.\nCore Learning Modules\nParticipants will explore four foundational leadership areas:\nModule 1 — Communication Leading clear, compassionate, and meaningful communication with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.\nModule 2 — Facilitation Supporting effective collaboration by leading productive, respectful team discussions and decision-making.\nModule 3 — Legislative, Regulatory & Change Management Updates Strengthening accountability and compliance through updated awareness of legislation, inspections frameworks, and system priorities — while guiding teams through necessary changes.\nModule 4 — Team Building Enhancing team cohesion, accountability, and trust to improve resident care outcomes.\nWhy This Refresher Course Matters\nThis program:\n\nEnsures currency with Ontario’s LTC legislation, standards, and compliance expectations\nSupports both new and experienced Medical Directors in fulfilling mandated competencies\nAligns with system recommendations for consistent LTC leadership education\nContributes to improved and standardized quality of care across LTC homes\n\nAccreditation\nThis Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
